Digital painting एक simple painting का ही एक रूप है जैसे कागज में brush और colours की मदद से चित्र बनाया बनाया जाता है ठीक वैसे ही digital painting में कागज और brush और colour की जगह किसी digital devices जैसे - Computer और Tablet जैसी चीजों का use किया जाता है। Digital painting में digital devices के अलावा एक software का भी use होता है। जिसमे कई तरह के designs, templets और paint brush का option दिया जाता है। इन सभी की मदद से जो भी चित्र बनाया जाता है वह बिलकुल tredistional painting की तरह दिखता है। इसमें computer base technology का use करके हम कई designs तैयार कर सकते है। जैसे - Computer graphics, Animation, Gaming, Painting, Product designing, Virtual and intrective art जैसे field में digital painting का use किया जाता है। Digital painting का use करना बहुत ही आसान है जिस तरह हम कागज पर paintbrush की मदद से चित्र बनाते है उसी तरह हम tablet या computer पर stylish pen जो एक खास तरह का pen है उसकी मदद से चित्र बनाते है। 
Digital painting के लिए सिर्फ दो चीजों की जरुरत होती है एक है drawing tablet and painting software. चित्र बनाने के लिए ये दोनों ही सबसे जरुरी है बहुत सी companies है जो drawing tablets बनाती है जिनमे से कुछ नाम है - Wacom, XP- pen, Ugee etc. और अगर painting software की बात करे तो जयादातर artist photoshop का use करते है। जिसका use image editing, Graphic design, Digital art के लिए होता है इसके अलावा और भी software है जैसे - Corel painter, Krita, Clip studio paint, GIMP, ArtRage, Paint ToolSAI etc. इनमे  से कुछ softwares free है जैसे - Krita, GIMP etc. और बाकी सब softwares के लिए आपको पैसे देने पड़ते है। 

Use of Digital Painting :-

1- Graphic Designing:-

इनमे logo,Banner,Poster,Blog,Websites आदि को design किया जाता है। 

2- Animation:-

यह एक ऐसी technology है जिसको कोई भी image में वास्तव में हिला नहीं सकता उसको digital device में चलते और बोलते हुए या कुछ करते हुए दिखाया जाता है। Cartoon show और Gaming software को बनाने में animation का use किया जाता है। 
3- Newspaper, Magazine designing, Image printing, आदि में digital painting का use होता है। किसी product को attractive बनाने के लिए digital painting का use ज्यादा किया जाता है।
